2018-2019 School Year
Focus: First 30 days; all K-3rd Grade students must be screened for dyslexic characteristics.
As stated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) strategic plan, our mission is to guarantee the superior preparation and performance of every child. Using high-quality literacy instruction is essential in accomplishing this mission.
Given that Missouri is a local control state, LEAs (school districts and charter schools) have considerable autonomy with regard to which screening and diagnostic tools are used as well as what instructional methods and programs to implement. The Licking R-VIII School District had already developed a plan for measures that are as such required by the new policies of the department. Pathways to Reading will assist us in a new and easier transition to this new assessment(s) requirement.
